AAPC FOUNDATION STUDIES

The AAPC Foundation has released two original research studies examining issues shaping modern political communication and the democratic process.

The Foundation’s research on political advertising disclaimers explores how disclosure requirements affect the way voters perceive and respond to campaign communications, while the AAPC Foundation AI Voter Study examines how likely 2026 voters are encountering, using, and trusting artificial intelligence in the election information environment.

Together, these studies provide political professionals, policymakers, researchers, and the public with data-driven insight into how changes in technology and political communication are influencing voters. Explore both studies below to learn more about the findings and their implications for campaigns and elections.

Study: The Disclaimer Effect

As artificial intelligence reshapes political communication, The Disclaimer Effect examines whether required disclaimers on AI-generated political ads actually help voters understand what they are seeing. The first phase of the nonpartisan study finds that disclaimers may instead increase mistrust and skepticism, while many voters either fail to notice them or remain unsure what the disclosure means.
